BILLY CORGAN Is Open To Collaborating With MILEY CYRUS
December 30, 2014According to The Pulse Of Radio, Billy Corgan, frontman for the SMASHING PUMPKINS, recently gave us an interesting window into just who he would — and wouldn’t — collaborate with. In an interview with OUI FM Rock Sessions, he said he definitely would work with Miley Cyrus if she called.
Corgan explained, "Actually I was asked recently to get involved [with Cyrus], but the problem is, and this is nothing against her, but that whole world in L.A. is they want you to write a bunch of songs, then the pop people pick through, ‘I want that one, I want that one.’ I don’t do that. If she called me and said, ‘Would you write a song with me?’ I would consider it because again, she is very talented, and it would be a cool thing to explore, but I’m not going to write a song and sit by the fire, hoping that Miley will pick my song over the next stupid song."
While Corgan gives Cyrus props, he fails to find much else in the pop landscape worth cultivating, saying, "Pop music is the enemy, and I’m a pop artist, it’s okay, but pop music is the enemy when it becomes robotic, predictable, it looks happy, but it’s not happy at all, it’s kind of gross, shallow."
Corgan added, "It’s pornography. Music, in terms of pop music right now, is basically pornography. The videos are becoming more pornographic, the story behind the music is becoming more pornographic. Why? Because that the only move pop has, it can’t win on a qualitative basis."
Corgan and the SMASHING PUMPKINS recently released their ninth studio album, "Monuments To An Elegy".
